Revolut, a British fintech company, achieved a remarkable success - As a digital-only bank with the highest valuation, funding, revenues, and total deposits, it emerged as a leader of the digital revolution in banking. While Revolut still has a long way to measure up with the top traditional banking institutions in the United Kingdom, it has already become an alternative that challenged their market power and pushed them to compete. This case study is an in-depth analysis of Revolut’s rise as a digital bank.

With the stalled economic recovery, the prolonging Russo-Ukrainian war, and the ongoing negotiations with Venezuela, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, the only certainty is that we live in times of uncertainty. With my empirical analysis based on this assumption, I argue that the optimal investment strategy for the upcoming 6-12 months is to short oil.

By conducting a large online survey targeted at a region with spatial discontinuity, this research documents persistent effects of the Partitions of Poland on contemporary differences in culture and social capital between formerly Prussian and Russian regions.

This is a summary of my thesis research on the effects of the nineteenth-century partitions of Poland among Austria, Prussia, and Russia on contemporary socio-economic and cultural outcomes and regional disparities. By conducting an online survey targeted at a region with spatial discontinuity, I document persistent effects of the Partitions of Poland between formerly Prussian and formerly Russian regions.

My results suggest that a longer duration of a Communist regime is associated with an increase in generalized trust, while personally living longer in Communism has no significant effect. There seems to be little heterogeneity of the effects in terms of the length of exposure to the regime.

Considering the lack of substantial research in the area, this paper takes the relationship between transport infrastructure and decentralization as its main subject of analysis. Is decentralization associated with improved transport infrastructure provision in developing countries?
