Revolut’s Revolution - The Rise of a Digital Bank
Revolut, a British fintech company, achieved a remarkable success - As a digital-only bank with the highest valuation, funding, revenues, and total deposits, it emerged as a leader of the digital revolution in banking. While Revolut still has a long way to measure up with the top traditional banking institutions in the United Kingdom, it has already become an alternative that challenged their market power and pushed them to compete. This case study is an in-depth analysis of Revolut’s rise as a digital bank.

The Network around Revolut—How Interconnected are the Leading Digital Banks?
The goal of this paper is to analyze the network around Revolut, a London company that has emerged from a startup offering an inter-bank rate currency exchange to a challenger bank that is the second largest in the world and the largest in Europe by market valuation. To that end, I consider the network structures of financial, human, and social capital flows around Revolut.

Communism and Generalized Trust—A Perplexing Correlation
My results suggest that a longer duration of a Communist regime is associated with an increase in generalized trust, while personally living longer in Communism has no significant effect. There seems to be little heterogeneity of the effects in terms of the length of exposure to the regime.

Smith’s Balanced Judgement on the Desire for Wealth and Greatness
I have found that Smith’s balanced judgement on the desire for wealth and greatness in his
Theory of Moral Sentiments
, where he explains that this desire is not necessarily a vice, led him to make the central assumption of
The Wealth of Nations
, which says that the motivation to better one’s own condition is positive and natural for humans, and this assumption allowed him to present the positive consequences of self-interested behavior for society. My
essay
is an attempt to present how certain insights from
The Theory of Moral Sentiments
can be used to trace the origin and better understand the context of some concepts in
The Wealth of Nations
.

French Secularism Today—Its Origin and Conflict with French Muslims
Contemporary French secularism is a product of both a break from religious tradition and a partial compromise with the Catholic Church, meaning that French secularism, in its present form, is incompatible with the French Muslim perspective on the role of religion in public life and fails to approach Islam as a religion with its own unique characteristics, which are distinct from those of Catholicism.
